Why You Should Add Morning Pages To Your Self-Care Routine

In Her Thoughts: Why You Should Add Morning Pages To Your Self-Care Routine

I have always been a pen and paper person, even when I know I’m going to type it out later. Usually, there won’t be any logical cohesion, but just a layout of ideas in their rawest form. For quite some time it seemed like the silliest brilliant key to a clearer mind, coming up with better ideas and less pressure to produce fine art from rough ideas. It can be anytime and anywhere, if something crazy and unique comes to mind I just jot it down. It can just a simple word, a phrase or an unpopular opinion. And I’m glad to say it’s from these abstracts that some of my best work budded from. When I heard of morning pages by Julia Cameroon, I was hooked by the idea of writing three pages in the morning. From writing just a heading or a phrase three pages was quite a stretch but it was worth a try!

This why I think you should try it too!

It’s not like everyone have much to do anyway. No shade. Lemme explain! Being at home 24/7 isn't something you get used to easily after years of having a strict routine, even for those who have been at home, it sucks to be deprived of the freedom to move around. The problem is not really staying at home, but the feeling and fear of losing freedom. Finally the word “incapacitated” can be used properly. Morning pages aren't just for writers at this point, they can be used as a coping mechanism. And here’s why:

To clear your mind

It’s not easy to fill up 3 pages with random thoughts but they do help clear your mind from any mental or emotional blocks. Not only that but also allow your mind to trace the problem unti you find the root cause of anxiety, fear, sadness and everything that downs your positivity. Take it like your morning chores routines only with the intention to wipe clean your consciousness.

To understand who you are

2 in 3 people are either following the crowd or people pleasers. If not on the internet, they are bootlickers in the workplace, family or among friends. When you write about what’s on your mind without a third party influence, you start to know yourself more. It gives one a strong sense of self because you say how you feel and be you.

To make a positive move to self-care

Our inner critic is louder when we don’t get to spill our thoughts to move past our fears, mistakes and negativity. It is like writing your thoughts into existence, you become better in tune with your intuition and listen to your heart rather than your head.

To realign your goals

Worrying about your job, taking care of your family, pandemic induced anxiety: trying to strike a balance between reality and vision can be hard. It is important to write the vision down somewhere you can go back and remind yourself. Writing morning pages show you what’s the most important and help you focus on that.

I think that by the simple act of starting morning pages with this sentence: “Today is going to be the best day ever!” it helps attract positive vibes and to put your mind in a positive place. Little things like that really help. We all need that positivity during these dark times!
