4 Things I Learnt On Social Media
Hey everyone! Let’s dive in, social can be a bitter pill to swallow. A mirage, a confession box, a tool for change or business. Basically, you can do with it whatever you please. And that, when the problem comes, gives people too much they abuse the narrative. A few bad apples, let’s call them the trolls. Apart from all things, I learnt a lot from social media.
I see it as a mirror.
Social media has helped me find my true self. I learn about myself, find my voice which has stand out in my writing and create my story. Which has helped me progress and inspire despite my weaknesses. Social media is giving everyone a voice. And through the shared voices that we become louder for the world to hear. This is such an eye opener, I remember when COVID 19 hit and everyone was indoors. You would hear people are losing their jobs, but it hots different when you actually see a post of someone who does. You get to see what people are going through.
Ubuntu & Solidarity
Belonging is a huge part for me. I want to have where I go and be understood. Social media for one has been a platform to meet liked minded people. I follow many blogging and writing communities. I get to share about mental health, personal development or life and someone out there on the web will relate. We have seen in the past week or two how everyone rallied behind #BlackLivesMatter and #StopRapingOurWomen. It showed the power of social media to bring people from different ethnicity, countries, race and even background. It speaks volume to me.

Accountability
You know people be outchea armed with screenshots. Social media is that cousin that always reminds what you said and when you said, in verbatim, no filter. If you follow on Twitter a lot of prominent celebrities, companies and politicians are put on the stake to answer for their actions and most importantly words. It taught that as a people we need to model behaviors that we want to see. If you don’t purport what you expect from others, why would anyone else be interested? Accountability is not a one time, one-sided thing it’s an every time, everyone thing.
Always use positive words; the world listens!
I’m for positivity and listening. Ever find yourself scrolling on Twitter or Facebook to catch up and actually read captions, stories and everything between? That right there is social listening, social media has taught me to listen better and that whatever I write and project. The world’s ears are open to every voice. So take every tweet, caption as the life blood on a comma. Or take it as a date; what you post is someone’s first impression of you.
